Subject Code:           MOD11WHLI
Subject Title:            The Wheel of Life
Description:              The Wheel of Life or ‘the Medicine Wheel’ is an ancient symbol that affects each and every one of us. It represents our journey through life and our search for wholeness and harmony with the world as a whole.  It incorporates the energies of the four directions, as well as Grandfather Sky, Mother Earth and Great Spirit.   A list of correspondences applies to the Wheel; a list that includes colours, animals, plants, stones, elements, seasons, as well as a series of lessons and stages of development that we may explore once, or many times during the course of our life.  Spiritually, we travel the Wheel of Life many times over countless lifetimes.  It is believed that until we find harmony with all things and we embrace the teachings of the Wheel, we may never obtain all four Gifts of Power; illumination, innocence, introspection and wisdom and become a whole person.

Basic understandings include:
•    Exploring the Wheel as a map of growth and development from childhood to the elder,
•    Exploring the Wheel as a journey through the seasons and the four winds
•    Exploring the Wheel as a journey of humanity: the four colours / races of man
•    Exploring the Wheel as a map of the four cardinal directions, their corresponding energies (the stones, animals, plants, colours) and the elements
•    Exploring the Wheel as a spiral deep into the core, the heart, one’s centre, to Spirit, unconditional love and beyond

Cost:                $150

Available:           upon completion of Level 1 and Level 2 theory lessons – contact Animal Dreaming to register.

Subject Code:         MOD12TOSH
Subject Title:           The Totem Shield
Description:            In this subject participants will learn about the Totem Shield: a sacred way of honouring your spiritual lineage, family ancestry, personal power and sacred medicine place in the universe. The Totem Shield (made from hide stretched over a, for example, willow frame) performed much the same role as a birth certificate or ‘astrology chart’; it showed where you were from (the stars, for example), your family line, your Totemic and spiritual support, your visioned future, and much more through the imagery of animals, plants and stones. Participants will be required to demonstrate their knowledge by creating their own totem shield.

Basic understandings include:
•    Medicine specifics of the Totems people inherently carry. For example, ‘Snake people’ are often seen as healers, ‘Bear people’ are often consider mystics, while ‘Owl people are often ‘seers’, etc.
•    The power and shadow aspects of the animals we call ‘Totems’
•    Totemic birth implications, which is very much like our birth certificates do today. If a person was born in the winter, for example, they may have had a Snow Goose as their birth totem. This animal would suggest ‘how many winters’ this person had seen, and what this meant for the person in question.
•    Ancestry and lineage. It is a belief that totems can be ‘inherited’ or ‘passed’ from one generation to the next

Cost:                $150

Available:           upon completion of Level 1 and Level 2 theory lessons – contact Animal Dreaming to register.

Subject Code:           PRA05MYJD
Subject Title:            Make your own Journey Drum
Description:              The drums sponsored by Animal Dreaming are known as ‘Journey Drums’. Octagonal in shape, the Journey Drum is used to guide the individual to a place where they’re offered the tools and knowledge to heal on all levels. Unlike the round healing drum, which is used to bring about healing on behalf of another, the octagonal drum has ‘corners’ in which shadows can hide. The journey drum honours the light and the dark equally; the good and the bad. It invites honesty, candidacy, and a chance to explore the shadow self while empowering the light, true, spiritual self in a way that’s free of judgement or fear. Participants will complete level 3 armed with their own deer-hide drum.

Basic understandings include:
•    The purpose of the Journey Drum
•    How the Journey Drum differs in use and appearance to the Healing Drum
•    A greater knowledge of why the drum’s eight sides are significant, not to mention its eight corners
•    Why the hide of the Fallow Deer is preferred

Cost:                $385
